Scientific Advisory Board

Scientific advisor

Dr. Ron Orlando, PhD

Glycoscience researcher, University of Georgia

Dr. Ron Orlando is a Distinguished Research Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Georgia and a longtime member of its Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC), where he leads the mass spectrometry facility.

He earned his PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Delaware and has spent his career advancing the study of glycoproteins and glycosylation, the sugar structures on cells that are increasingly central to immunity, digestion, and disease.

A prolific researcher and inventor, he has co-founded three science companies and was named a Regents’ Entrepreneur by the University System of Georgia.

For GutRx, he helps ensure our formulations are grounded in rigorous, publishable science.

Scientific advisor

Dr. Jarrod Barnes, PhD, MBA

Glycobiology researcher, University of Alabama at Birmingham

Dr. Jarrod Barnes is a faculty researcher in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

He earned his PhD at the University of Georgia and trained in glycobiology at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, studying how glycans, the sugar molecules coating our cells, shape human health and disease.

His work examines how glucose metabolism and glycosylation drive cellular behavior, at the frontier of understanding how nutrition and the microbiome influence the whole body.

He pairs this research depth with an MBA, giving GutRx an advisor who understands both the science and the responsibility of bringing health products to the people who need them.
